Residents Display Their Artwork in Office of Local Lawmaker
Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel is a frequent visitor to the Jewish Home's Eisenberg Village campus.
"As the proud grandson of a LAJH resident, I regularly get to see the passion, creativity, and talents of the wonderful folks at the Jewish Home," he said.
Gabriel, who represents the 45th Assembly District, encompassing much of the west San Fernando Valley, was so impressed with the artwork created by our residents, he recently asked if he could display a few of their paintings in his Woodland Hills office.
When news reached Beverly Berman, whose work was among those selected, she was delighted. "I am so excited!" said Berman.
"It's an honor to showcase art from LAJH residents in our district office," said Gabriel.
Berman, who is 87, has been painting since the 1970s. She recently taught herself how to paint with her left hand, after suffering a stroke that impaired mobility in her right hand. With its emphasis on nurturing creativity in seniors as a means to strengthen their powers of self-expression, the Home is the perfect place for Berman. Plus, she enjoys the social time with her friends who also spend time creating artwork in the Arts and Crafts room.
